4/29/2023 0 Comments Coctail for mac review![]() ![]() There's a lot of myth flying around about doing things like running Cocktail or other clean up scripts, repairing disk permissions, etc. If you suddenly find that things are "clogging up", then consider running Cocktail etc. I'm assuming from the various questions you've posted that you're a Windows convert. I can't be bothered to go on, but really, all this stuff is either a) pointless or b) done by MacOS anywayġ0.2/10.3 had this peculiarity that the tidy up scripts were run via cron - if the machine was asleep when they were due to run, they just didn't run.ġ0.4 changed all that and runs them via launchd - if their slot is missed, launchd runs them when appropriate. Update whatis and locate databases - why? ![]() Modify sleep settings for portable computers - fair enough ![]() Run cron scripts - err? Doesn't cron run the cron scripts for you, at a specified time?Ĭhange startup mode - no idea what this is, might be useful Prebind/re-prebind the entire system or selected folder - Why? ![]() Ok, this might make you marginal power savings. I'm not going to rant about how pointless this is. Why would you want to disable journaling? If someone us using Cocktail to do it, then my guess is that they don't understand what journaling is or does. Let's look at what Cocktail (and other apps) does: I know, I know, lots of people say it's great and you should use it and Mac OS doesn't look after itself.
